thankfulness day 8

Thankfulness Day 8 – Today, I feel incredibly thankful that our government is still a ‘Republic’ and not just a pure ‘Democracy’.

From Thought.Co: In a republic, laws are made by representatives chosen by the people and must comply with a constitution that specifically protects the rights of the minority from the will of the majority. In a pure democracy, laws are made directly by the voting majority leaving the rights of the minority largely unprotected.

That means that the majority, however slim it is (and as you can see it’s incredibly slim) cannot force their values or rights or opinions on the ‘minority’. Our balance of powers and the electoral college protect the rights of the 50% of the country who did NOT vote for Biden and who disagree with all our hearts with any of the radical beliefs and wishes of those who did. (I don’t mean the reasonable ones–and there are many.) There was no ‘mandate’ for Biden and if Trump had won, there would not have been a mandate for him either. Those are the facts.

Our government was designed so that regardless of who wins the presidency, the rights of the other political party and the 50% of the American people whose president didn’t win (which is still somewhat up for question), still get protected.

I am thankful, today, for the brilliant work of our nations forefathers who foresaw the divides we face today. So that we can have a country that doesn’t have to resort to violence (though it is sad that many people do that anyway. 🙁 ). They produced this system based off of political wisdom that dates back to Socrates and the Greek polity.

If Biden had a ‘mandate’, then the Republicans would not have gained so many seats in the House of Representatives, nor would we still have so much strength in the Senate. Praising God for the Supreme Court balance. Praising God for a constitution and political system that is JUST and FAIR–at least till the far left destroys our electoral college and annuls our constitution. God is good!
